Brownie in a Mug

It was a Friday night.  The kids were sleeping.  We were just about to start a Redbox movie that we had gotten for free.  The movie starred Kevin James, so let’s just say I was excited.  But then it dawned on us.  We have a craving.  Need something sweet.  Now.  Nothing sweet to be found in the house.  It was the end of the week, and the end of the week means the food in this house is rapidly dwindling and we start to starve.  But then Grant came up with a cautiously brilliant idea.  He said, “Do we have the ingredients to try one of those ‘brownie in a mug’ things?  Like that you seen on Pinterest?”  So we got on Pinterest and tried the first recipe we found, which you can find here

All you need is sugar, flour, oil, cocoa and salt.  And ice cream if you have it.  Like I mentioned above, it was the end of the week and we were out of groceries, so of course we had no ice cream.  But we did have the basic baking supplies.  And mugs.  And a microwave that kind of works.  It is from college and we feel guilty buying a new one until the thing either blows up or dies.  Anyway, we were a little doubtful that this brownie in a mug would be palatable, but we gave it a whirl – because our craving were that bad.

ImageMix it all up, then pop it in the microwave for 1:40, and BOOM!  You have a brownie in a mug!

And here it is….Image

It was a little dry, so I probably would add a touch more oil if we tried this again.  That or get some ice cream.  It definitely quenched the craving though!  Not bad for a couple of ingredients, a cup and a semi-working microwave!
