Dossier: Complete!

Great news!!  Our Dossier is finally complete!  And you may be saying, “Huh?  What’s a Dossier?”

Well, I will tell you that it is a group of paperwork that has taken us the last 4 months of our lives to complete.  Every spare minute was spent going somewhere to get a piece of paper from someone, or getting fingerprinted, or having something notarized.  It includes a lot of work from a lot of people, and a lot of important signatures.  This paperwork represents all of the information that will be sent straight to South Africa to help the team overseas match us with a child (or two!).  It includes reference letters, police clearances, our home study, employment information, tax information, and pictures of our lives to present in court, just to name a few.

Above anything, this pile of paperwork represents the dedication we have to the child(ren) we have never met.  In the grand scheme of things, the frustrations of getting all of this paperwork filled out correctly is nothing compared to the excitement we feel and the pure joy we can’t wait to experience once our kid(dos) are in our arms forever!

Most of our documents had to go to the Secretary of State in the state in which the documents were notarized in order to get apostilled.  There’s another new word for ya!  That basically means that we needed a “seal of approval” stating that the notary signature on each document is valid.

We are so glad that this step is done!  We put this packet of precious documents in the mail today and it is now on it’s way to Bethany Christian Services global headquarters, and then on to South Africa!

We would greatly appreciate your prayers over this paperwork, for its safety as it travels through the mail and overseas.  May it only be in the right hands of the people who will lead us to our chosen little one(s)!

After this, we wait.  A proposed 12-18 months of waiting.  That seems like a long time when we’re waiting to receive a child out of poverty, sickness and hunger into our family.  But we trust in the fact that God’s timing is perfect.  This process has already shown me just how weak and impatient I am.  We trust that the Father has our little one(s) in His hands and will entrust them into our care when His time is right.  Until then, we wait.

What will we be doing during that wait?  We will be doing more education and training on how to teach, guide and love children that come from tough pasts.  We are working through some books that are just great.  We have started to use some of the things we’ve learned on our boys, and it’s been very effective!

We will also focus on fundraising during this time.  Now that the dossier is done, we have time to dedicate to raising some big funds!  There will be information coming soon on different ways you can donate/become involved.  Stay tuned for that.

But for now, we are planning another garage sale in the middle of May.  We held one last fall, and we had a great turnout!  That being said, if you are in our area and are doing any spring cleaning, we would love your “unwanteds” to sell on the garage sale.  Just get ahold of us and we can pick up your stuff or you can drop it off at our house.
