A couple of weekends ago, we held our second adoption garage sale fundraiser. We collected unwanteds from many different families; I think about 17-20 families total donated items. It was city-wide rummage sales in town, and we didn’t know if that would attract people or deter them since there were so many other sales. We decided to advertise the goo out of this thing in hopes that some would come. We had a lot of stuff to get rid of!
Let me tell you – the people came. Oh, did the people come! We had planned to open at noon on Thursday, but people were coming constantly by 8:30 in the morning as our garage exploded onto our driveway. I didn’t even get a chance to take a “pre-sale” picture until about 3 hours after people started coming!
And just because we like to have a lot of stress in our lives, we agreed to let our contractor come the same day as our opening day of the garage sale to replace our sunroom door.
The rainy spring we’ve had has forced us to have this replaced sooner than we were hoping, due to leaky seals and rotted baseboard. The carpet is water damaged, so we need to replace the flooring yet. We have decided to just do a little mini-makeover. More to come on this room soon!
By the end of three days of rummaging, here’s what our yard looked like:
People were very generous when they found out this was an adoption fundraiser!
We met a lot of great people with so many ties to adoption themselves. That was such an encouragement to hear and gave us a renewed excitement to meet our little one(s)!
Thank you to everyone who helped out with this garage sale – including those who donated, helped out on the sale days, brought us food, kept our kids occupied (ahem Grandma Lu Ann!), and prayed for us! The support we have around us is just amazing!
