Hey everyone this is Grant! I wanted to share a a bit more with you all on our last couple days here in South Africa! I originally sent this to a group of friends that get together on Friday mornings for prayer as I won’t be there this week and unable to call in- we plan on heading to the zoo!
The second day we went back out after getting some groceries at one of the local grocery stores and then spent most of the day with our little girl getting to know her and the staff. It’s a great place with wonderful staff and volunteers! At the end of the day we were told that things were going so well that we could take her home with us the next day if we wanted to!!
So of course we said yes, and today we spent some more time out there and took her “home” with us this afternoon! She’s been described as sweet and stubborn and we are already seeing both! Attachment is going pretty well so far, and she went to sleep rather well for us tonight.
And so begins our family of five!! Please continue to pray for safety as Johannesburg kind of freaks us out. We are staying in a rather safe neighborhood but everyone we talk to says to stay in when it gets dark, never go for walks, etc. The driving isn’t horrible but is scary enough with crazy taxi drivers that don’t follow rules and do what they want, as well as tons of people walking on the sides of roads, down the middle, across, hitchhiking, etc. Check out this picture Jen got the other day!
We want to get out and about a little over the next week and a half before we go to Cape Town, and want to stay safe doing so. The biggest prayer we could ask for now is for attachment to keep going well and running its course- both ways! It’s a bit weird having a new little girl but not a newborn! “Oh yeah that’s what two year olds are like” I keep telling myself… She’s already a mamas girl as there have been a few times where she can only be consoled by her. Our court date is next Wednesday at 8:30 in the morning (1:30 am for you) so please pray that goes well.
We will continue to keep you all updated! Thanks for all of the support, encouragement, and prayers!
