Day 13 (Saturday) started off very early, as we were going to fly to Cape Town. We turned our rental car in at 6 am and then got ready for a flight at 9. We wanted to get there early because we didn’t know if we’d run into any trouble getting Palesa through security.
Everything went extremely smoothly. Palesa seemed to enjoy her first flight, and even slept a bit on the way.
It was a two-hour flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. When we got to CT, it was raining and very dreary. We were warned that was what winter was like in the Cape. But the flight in was beautiful with both the mountains and the ocean in plain view.
We have settled into our new “home away from home”. Yesterday (Sunday), we attended church with the some people from the Wandisa adoption agency and it’s also the church that our attorney attends. We met some lovely people (oh no, I’m starting to pick up some of the South African verbiage!).
Today, we got a little more settled by getting some groceries. We then met with our attorneys and the Wandisa team to go over next steps. They were so kind to give us some toys for Palesa to play with while we are saying here. We also got Palesa’s passport photos taken. That was challenging as she is very attached to her dummy (a.k.a. pacifier). So we showed her some pictures of her brothers back home over the photographer’s head and it worked like a charm! She loves her brothers already and hasn’t even met them yet!
There is a lot that needs to happen with our paperwork before we can come home. I have updated the Adoption Timeline page to include these steps to take a look and see where we are at.
